Treating deep cleaning as the normal method is what makes the job feel impossible, because you are removing weeks of buildup in one session instead of preventing it.

Deep Cleaning Methods

For an established film, work in this order: wet the glass with warm water, apply your chosen cleaner, let it dwell briefly without letting it dry on the surface, wipe with a soft microfiber cloth in overlapping strokes, rinse thoroughly including edges and seals, then dry the glass completely. Drying is not cosmetic — any water left behind will dry down into a new mineral layer.

A note on acidic DIY cleaners. Some owners use a diluted white vinegar solution on mineral-heavy film, and it is a common household approach. Use a squeegee with a clean, flexible blade after every shower, working from the top down, then finish the edges and any hardware with a cloth. Do not leave standing water in a track or on a ledge. Leave the door slightly open and let the room ventilate so the surfaces dry instead of staying damp — a shower that stays humid keeps the film soft and sticky for longer.

Scum is easiest to miss along the edge where the glass meets the seal and in the bottom corners, so work those areas into the weekly wipe.
